Wednesday’s recital in the RBA was given by UoT Opera. It consisted of a series of arias/scenes drawn from the operas of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven creatively staged by Mabel Wonnacott. It was lively and a lot of fun and the vocal standard was very high, especially for so early in the academic year.

Transpositions
Transpositions is an unusual album in more than one way. For starters, the music is composed by a duo; Unsettled Scores consisting of Spy Dénommé-Welch and Catherine Magowan. These are the folks responsible for Canoe last year. The new album, like the opera, explores the theme of environmental degradation; this time coupled with the idea of chronic illness, through the medium of instrumental chamber music; albeit a most unusual ensemble. It’s a trio of Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk – Viola, Justin McLean – Bass Trombone and Tuba and Christine Cheongyeong Bae – Piano..
McKenzie at Met
Today’s noon hour concert at Metropolitan United Church featured soprano McKenzie Warriner and pianist Christine Bae. Ellita Gagner was also scheduled to sing but, unfortunately, she was not able to do so due to illness. So we got a hastily reorganised programme.
