Perhaps the most exciting prospect is that from May 26th to 29th you can catch the world premiere of M’dea Undone, a collaboration between Tapestry and Scottish Opera, at the Evergreen Brickworks. The libretto is by Marjorie Chan with music by John Harris in this retelling of the classic story of love and betrayal in the context of today’s perpetual war against whatever. Tim Albery directs with Jordan De Souza conducting. The cast includes Lauren Segal, Peter Barrett, Jacquie Woodley and James McLean.
Earlier, Toronto Operetta Theatre are presenting Davies’ and Benson’s Earnest, the Importance of Being based, of course, on Wilde. It will play at the St. Lawrence Centre on April 29th, May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (mat). Guillermo Silva-Marin directs with Larry Beckwith conducting the orchestra. The cast includes Jean Stilwell, Michelle Garlough, Cameron McPhail, Thomas Macleay, Charlotte Knight, Greg Finney, Sean Curran and Roz McArthur.
On May 3rd the Recitals at Rosedale series continues at Rosedale Presbyterian. The program is titled Wanderlust… There and Back Again and features Lucia Cesaroni, Emily d’Angelo and Anthony Cleverton with Rachel Andrist at the piano. Also from R@R is the news that next season they will coming under the umbrella of the Royal Conservatory’s programming and relocating to Mazzoleni Hall. More on that later.
Toronto Masque Theatre explores our dreams of the East in dance and music, featuring a choreographed adaptation of Rameau’s baroque masterpiece Les Indes Galantes on a double bill with a concert of Turkish-influenced music. It’s on May 14th and 15th at 8:00 pm at the Fleck Dance Theatre at Harbourfront.
