Getting even cosier?

topherjoelA bunch of announcements today; most of them from Against the Grain Theatre.  The big one I suppose is the announcement of a formal arrangement with the COC which sees a two year “company in residence” arrangement whereby AtG will be based at the COC’s Front Street offices and where COC execs will mentor their AtG equivalents.  The relationship has been going on for a while so it’s not terribly surprising that they have decided to shack up together.

There were also announcements of various upcoming AtG shows.  The first is Oswaldo Golijov’s Ayre for soprano and chamber ensemble.  This will be presented at the Ismaili  Centre, 49 Wynford Drive, at 8pm on November 10th, 11th and 12th.  Ayre is staged by Joel Ivany with Miriam Khalil as soprano soloist.  Students from the conservatory will form the chamber ensemble.  The program will be rounded out by additional works by Golijov.  There will also be a preview of Ayre at noon on the 10th in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre.  Tickets are $40 – $70 and available from

There’s also going to be a remount of AtG’s near legendary La Bohème at the Tranzac.  Dates and casting have yet to be announced.  Finally, there’s going to be a monthly opera pub night starting at 9pm on October 13th at the Amsterdam Bicycle Club on The Esplanade.  Again, no details, but beer is said to be involved.

Meanwhile Soup Can Theatre have announced concert performances of Brecht and Weill’s The Threepenny Opera.  There will be three shows on October 2nd at the Monarch Tavern on Clinton Street.  Show times are 4pm, 6.30pm and 9pm.  All the roles will be taken by the trio of Scott Garland, Christian Jeffries and Sarah Thorpe.  Music direction is by Pratik Gandhi.  Tickets are $13 at the door or online.
