There have been a lot of announcements in the last few days. Tapestry announced that they had two companies “in residence” for next season at their new home at 877 Yonge Street. They are Opera Q ;led by Ryan Macdonald and Camille Rogers, who produced the pandemic video Medusa’s Children and Cultureland which is led by Afarin Mansouri and was responsible for Echoes of Bi-Sotoon.
Then the COC announced that Opera 5 would be artists in residence for next season which is well deserved as not only have they been going for a while but were one of the first indie companies to come back to the stage after the pandemic with proper opera; in this case The Turn of the Screw as well as the award winning video series Threepenny Submarine. FWIW I note that they are not “disruptors in residence”. Rocking the boat is out at the COC for now at least!
And in other news Jonathan Crow’s successor at Toronto Summer Music has been announced. It’s Calgarian William (Will) Fedkenheuer; a violinist and chamber musician currently teaching in Texas. Big shoes to fill (in every sense!) but Mr. Fedkenheuer has TSM experience and should be a good fit.
