Those clever folks at Tapestry have just announced a “cancellation proof” 2020/21 season. Basically it’s set up so that shows can be given for a live audience or as a webstream or some hybrid solution as circumstances evolve.
The digital component will be as follows:
- A broadcast premiere of the recently digitally-rehearsed Rocking Horse Winner, originally slated for live performance in April 2020
- Monthly livestreamed concerts from Tapestry’s Ernest Balmer Studio in partnership with Yamaha Music Canada
- Newly commissioned works for online video channels
- Recording and streaming Tapestry’s contemporary repertoire
There’s new stuff in the works from musicians and composers such as Nicole Lizée, Brian Current, Rene Orth, Ian Cusson, and Ka Nin Chan. To be performed when and how the situation permits.
The world premiere of Dragon’s Tale by the composer Ka Nin Chan and librettist Mark Brownell is now scheduled as a free, outdoor production in partnership with Soundstreams running June 17th-20th, 2021. This is going to be on the harbour somehow; details to come later.
I think it’s a smart and imaginative thing to do.
