The fourth annual Toronto Bach Festival runs May 24th to 26th. There are four concerts and a lecture. Here’s the line up:
Friday, May 24th at 8pm – Brandenburg Five
The program includes two cantatas: the early Tritt auf die Glaubensbahn, and Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn, plus Julia Wedman as soloist in Bach’s Concerto in A minor for violin. A brilliant night of illuminating music. Soloists for the cantatas are Hélène Brunet, Daniel Taylor, Nick Veltmeyer and Joel Allison. John Abberger directs the Toronto Bach Festival Orchestra.
Saturday, May 25th at 3:30pm – Bach and the French Style – A lecture featuring Dr. Ellen Exner.
Saturday, May 25th at 5pm – A solo harpsichord recital by Luc Beauséjour
Saturday, May 25th at 9pm – A solo cello recital by Elinor Frey. (N.B.: At The Black Swan, 154 Danforth Ave.)
Sunday, May 26th at 3pm – Lutheran Masses
The program includes the Mass in G major, BWV 236, the Sanctus in D major, BWV 238 and the Mass in F major, BWV 233. Soloists areHélène Brunet, Daniel Taylor, Lawrence Wiliford and Joel Allison. John Abberger directs the Toronto Bach Festival Orchestra and Singers.
