Bicycle Opera Project and Toronto Masque Theatre have announced plans for their upcoming seasons. BOP will be touring Juliet Palmer and Anna Chatterton’s Sweat across Ontario in July and August (details in May). It’s a work about sweatshop labour in the garment industry and is scored for nine voices and no instruments. Sweat will be directed by Banuta Rubess, conducted by Geoffrey Sirett and designed by Sonja Rainey. The cast includes: Catherine Daniel, Caitlin Wood, Stephanie Tritchew, Christopher Enns, Larissa Koniuk, Justine Owens, Emma Char, Alexandra Beley and Cindy Won. Toronto Masque Theatre have announced three main stage works for their final season. 20th and 21st October 2017 sees a pairing of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with James Rolfe and André Alexis’ Aeneas and Dido at Trinity St. Paul’s featuring Alexander Dobson and Krisztina Szabó. February 6th to 10th 2018 sees Bach at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse. The Peasant Cantata will be followed by lieder, torch songs, poems and madrigals. Finally there’s a gala farewell at the Jane Mallett Theatre on 12th May 2018. In addition to the main stage performances there will be three salons. More details here.
