This looks like the week the season really starts.  The big event is the season opener at the TSO on Wednesday where Renée Fleming is featured.  There’s Ravel’s Shéhérazade plus Puccini, Walton and others finishing up with three numbers from The King and I.  This one’s at Roy Thomson Hall at the slightly unusual time of 7pm.  The next night at the Alliance Française there’s a show called Singing Stars of Tomorrow.  It features ten young singers who will have been engaged in a day long workshop with Sondra Radvanovsky.  It’s organised by the IRCPA.  Tickets are $25 from ircpa.net.

Then on Saturday there’s an unusual event at Corktown Commons.  Urban Vessel are presenting a free show called Singing River.  It’s on from 2pm – 6pm and features two segments:

• Stream of Stories features storytellers Cathy Elliott, Sharada Eswar and Diana Tso with tales from Indigenous Canada and around the world, inviting us to renew our relationship with the river. Each presentation includes interactive activities with an ecological focus.
• A River’s Journey features music by Germaine Liu and Juliet Palmer, lyrics by Nicholas Power and Anna Chatterton and choreography by Julia Aplin and Nova Bhattacharya.  Performers include Christine Duncan, The Burble Choir, Laura Swankey, Lucy Rupert, Jordana Deveau, Georgia Simms and Julia Aplin.

Finally, on Sunday tenors Romulo Delgado and Ernesto Ramirez celebrate Mexico’s independence, paying homage to its music, artists and composers. It’s at 3:00 pm
at Trinity St.Paul’s Centre.  General Admission $40.
