The Canadian Art Song project has announced plans for the 2015/16 season. As well as the annual “Celebration of Canadian Art Song” concert will be held on May 5, 2016 at 12 noon as part of the Free Concert Series in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre thereare going to be two ticketed recitals; the first at the Extension Room on November 7th, 2015 and the second at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse on February 5th, 2016.
The first recital will present a new cycle by Erik Ross (The Living Spectacle) along with works by Brian Harman (Sewing the Earthworm), Richard Strauss (Ophelia Lieder) and American Libby Larsen (Try Me, Good King). The second concert will feature song by Canadians Chester Duncan, Larysa Kuzmenko (In Search of Eldorado) and Imant Raminsh (The Pilgrim Soul) as well as works by Gustav Mahler (Songs of a Wayfarer) and Dominick Argento (The Andrée Expedition). Tickets will be on sale in September 2015 at www.canadianartsongproject.ca.
The press release didn’t actually give performers’ names but judging by the photos both Carla Huhtanen and Ambur Braid are involved in the first gig.
And…the fantastic Jennifer Nichols for the Extension Room recital. I also found it a little strange that the press release did not mention any of the performers – yet their headshots appear in the visuals.
Tiny, tiny headshots too. If I hadn’t seen some of the photos before I might not have recognized them!
We will be announcing more info as we put tickets on sale, but you are correct so far on all three artists for the first program. Steven Philcox will be playing.
In February Phil Addis and Emily Hamper will be performing.
Thanks for covering the announcement!
