Easter is fast approaching and there are various appropriate choral offerings around. Good Friday options include a Sing-Along Messiah at Armour Heights Presbyterian Church, 105 Wilson Ave. It’s at 2.30 pm and tickets are $20; $15(sr/st). Fancy that, a Messiah at Easter.
At 7.30pm at Metropolitan United Church, 56 Queen St. E. there’s a Bach Passion According to St. John. Soloists include Lesley Bouza, Daniel Taylor, Christopher Mayell and James Baldwin. Tickets are $30; $10(18 and under).
Also 7.30pm Toronto Beach Chorale have a programme entitled Musical Splendour: Vivaldi & Italian Baroque. It includes the Vivaldi: Gloria in D; Beatus Vir; Kyrie in g; and Lauda Jerusalem. It’s at Kingston Road United Church, 975 Kingston Rd. Tickets are $25/$20(adv); $12/$10(adv)(ages 7-18); free(under7).
And again at 7.30pm Toronto Mendelssohn Choir will perform Sacred Music for a Sacred Space. The programme includes the Duruflé Requiem and the Vierne Messe Solennelle. It’s at St. Paul’s Basilica, 83 Power St. Tickets are $35-$50, $35-$45(sr), $25(VoxTix 30 and under).
Easter Saturday offers a screening of the Royal Opera House production of Wagner’s Parsifal at Bloor Hot Docs cinema at 1pm. It’s a Stephen Langridge production and Anthony Pappano conducts. The cast includes Simon O’Neill (Parsifal), Angela Denoke (Kundry), Rene´ Pape (Gumenmanz), Gerald Finley (Amfortas), and Willard White (Klingsor). Tickets are $15.
