February 2024 – mostly theatre

feb2024theatreHere’s a round up of February shows not previously mentioned; mostly straight theatre.

  • Factory Theatre has two shows.  Rockabye by Joanna Murray-Smith deals with the travails of a female rock star who must reinvent herself before age pushes her onto the casino circuit.  That’s on the Main Stage from January 26th to February 11th.  Then on the 23rd and 24th illusionist Nick Wallace has a one man show in the Studio Theatre.

  • Soulpepper are presenting De Profundis: Oscar Wilde in Jail; a musical fantasy based on a letter from Wilde to Lord Alfred Douglas.  Previews start on February 1st with opening on the 8th running to the 18th.
  • From the 5th to the 17th Aluna Theatre are presenting Jorgelina Cerritos’ award winning On the Other Side of the Sea at the Theatre Centre.
  • At Crow’s from the 6th to the 25th, in the Studio Theatre, there is Mohammad Yaghoubi’s EARWORM, a Nowadays Theatre production. Modernity and tradition clash in the wake the Iranian revolution.  Some shows are in English, some in Farsi with surtitles.  And Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet continues; probably until Toronto gets hit by a comet.
  • From the 13th to the 25th Canadian Stage at Berkeley Street host Quote, Unquote Theatre’s Universal Child Care; an a cappella musical/play about the lack of affordable child care.
  • And… Opera Revue have another Debauchery at the Dakota on Valentine’s Day.  There are two shows; “spicy” at 7pm and “spicier” at 10pm.  So get a little habanero with your Habanera.
