The nominations for the 2026 Juno awards have been announced and four of the nominees are recordings that I have reviewed here or elsewhere.
Two of the nominations are in the Classical Album (Large Ensemble) category. One is a TSO recording of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella and Le baiser de la fée with an interesting, Glenn Gould inspired piece by Marie Murphy thrown in. The other is by the Canadian Chamber Choir and is called Where Waters Meet. It features pieces by Carmen Brady, Sherryl Sewepagaham and Hussein Janmohamed on the theme of water as source of life but also its degradation in the Canadian environment.
The Classical Composition of the Year category includes Andrew Staniland’s interesting and highly experimental electronic pieces; The Laws of Nature and Dancer Portraits. Last but not least, there’s a nomination in the Classical Album (Small Ensemble) category for the studio recording of Brian Current’s MISSING; a work of substance and importance.
The full list of Juno nominations is here and the final results will be revealed on March 29th in Hamilton.
