November is looking busy and interesting in both the theatre and the concert hall. Here are some shows you might be interested in…
- The Glenn Gould School’s fall chamber opera is Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilêges coupled with Debussy’s Prodigal Son. That’s in Mazzoleni Hall on the 1st and 2nd.
- Toronto Operetta Theatre is presenting Romberg’s The Student Prince at the Jane mallett Theatre on the 1sr, 2nd and 3rd.
- John Adams is conducting the TSO in a programme mostly of his own works on the 6th and 9th at Roy Thomson Hall. It’s also a chance to see Anna Prohaska sing.
- Coal Mine Theatre has Samuel D. Hunter’s A Case for the Existence of God. Previews are n the 3rd, 5th and 6th and opening night on the 7th. It runs until the 24th.
- On the 10th Opera Revue are back at the redwood Theatre with special guest Ambur Braid.
- On the 14th in a free noon hour concert at Metropolitan United you can see McKenzie Warriner and Ellita Gagner.
- From the 15th to the 24th at The Theatre Centre has Judy Reynold’s The Bees Knees which looks at women’s entry into politics in jazz era Canada.
- On the 15th and 16th Confluence have a Robert Burns evening at Heliconian Hall. Bring your own haggis.
- Crow’s Theatre has The Bidding War by Michael Ross Albert. It’s a dark comedy about the last affordable house in Toronto. Previews are on the 12th to 19th. It opens on the 20th and runs until December 15th.
- Coleen Shirin MacPherson’s Erased plays at Theatre Passe Muraille. It’s a dark comedy about workers in a greetings casrd factory following climate collapse. Previews on the 20th and 21st with opening on the 23rd and running until the 30th.
- Fom the 21st to 24th UoT Opera is presenting three one act operas about Islands by Lennox Berkeley, Kaija Saariaho and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Owing to the ongoing non-availability of the MacMillan it’s at the Sandra Daire and Ivan Fecan Theatre at
York University. Fortunately it’s right on the subway. - On the 22nd/23rd and 29th/30th the West End Micro Music Festival has concerts at Redeemer Lutheran on Bloor Street. Details here.
- On the 27th Esprit Orchestra are at Koerner Hall with a programme of music by Gabriella Smith, Bent Sørensen and Maki Ishii.
- On the 28th Barbara Hannigan and Bertrand Chamayou are also at Koerner Hall with a programme of Scriabin, Messiaen and Zorn.
- Diapente Renaissance Quintet have a Christmas Concert at St. Thomas’ Anglican on the 29th.
