Toronto Operetta Theatre 2018/19

fledermaus-121-motivsticker-sticker-aufkleberToronto Operetta Theatre have released preliminary information on their 2018/19 season.  There are three main stage productions at the Jane Mallett Theatre.  First up is Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss which runs December 28th, 2018 to January 2nd, 2019.  There’s been no shortage of Fledermice in Toronto in recent years with Christopher Alden, Aria Umezawa and Joel Ivany all contributing quite individual productions.  I imagine Guillermo Silva-Marin’s treatment will likely be designed to appeal more to the traditionalists!

March 3rd, 2019 sees a single performance of Ivor Novello’s Perchance to Dream.  It’s an odd plot.  Sort of Woolf’s Orlando meets Barbara Cartland.  It’s probably best known for the song We’ll Gather Lilacs.  Interesting to see whether TOT can capture the requisite dripping with nostalgia quality.

From April 23rd to 28th 2019 there’s another warhorse (warbat?) Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow.  There are also concerts including Out of Character; featuring the music of Latin America at the Jane Mallett on November 3rd, 2018, cabarets at the Edward Jackman Centre on October 20th, 2018 and February 16th, 2019 and a Gilbert and Sullivan show at the Arts and Letters Club on some yet to be announced date.

No details on casting at this stage.  More details and ticket information in July apparently.
